Byron History - Facts and Figures
Byron Time Line

Byron is located on Route 72 in North Central Illinois along the picturesque Rock River.

In 1835, while travelling between Dixon's Ferry (Dixon) and Midway (Rockford), Jared W. Sanford, impressed by the rich soil and abundant water supply, placed a claim stake.Soon additional pioneer families followed.

Originally called "Fairview" and then "Bloomingville", the settlement's name was changed to Byron in 1837 at the request of the Postmaster General.

While maintaining its agricultural roots, Byron is a growing urban community known for its friendly people, rock river access, contoured hillsides and an abundance of State/Local parks and recreation areas.
